Talking about poo...
Talking about poo - the Cambodians have been through a lot of it.
The Ultra Communist Khmer Rouge regime managed to inflict the deaths of an estimated 3 million Cambodians between 1975 & 1979. The Killing Fields is a haunting example of the almost 400 burial site clusters around the country and where the death of about 19000 prisoners was carried out. They have exhumed about 90 of the 130 graves finding almost 9000 corpses. There is a haunting display of 8000 skulls in the memorial tower in remembrance to the victims - check out the photos.
The Tuol Sleng genocide museum which was once the prison where these poor souls were tortured before heading off to Choeung Ek Killing Fields, leaves one speechless. They took photos of all of them which are now on display - of the 19000 prisoners only 7 survived. The type of crime perpetrated by these individuals included ''being an intellectual'', a crime for which their entire families were wiped out. Including all children and infants.
It seems almost impossible to believe that such a thing happened here, but it did.
