Olympic Torch--At Last!
01 May Hong Kong
At last, I was in the right place at the right time to see the passing of the Olympic torch as it began its long journey through China to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics.
The torch passed by on the street in front of my hotel. Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
The crowds were there by the thousands! I was pushed, shoved, pressed, and gouged, but I hung in to see the torch pass. The sudden surge of the crowd prevented my taking good pictures, but I did get some of the runners. Tammy will remember the time we were in New Orleans at a Mardi Gras and being caught in a surging crowd. It was like that! But, still, I thought it was worth being here for this moment in history. As I mentioned before, I had seen one other Olympic torch--the one for the Los Angeles games in 1984 while I was near Glorieta, New Mexico. It is a thrilling moment to see the torch pass.
I am now on my way to the airport to Xian, China to take my journey inland. I will catch up with you there.
The journey continues!
