Hong Kong, China
We LOVE HK!
Hong Kong is such a brilliant place! It is clean, we can understand everything, the Western food is really Western... it is like an oasis for us. Sas and Dan have been extremely welcoming hosts and they have a stunning flat right in the middle of everything so sight seeing is a breeze. We have also been able to upload all our pics and get all the other 'admin' tasks sorted so we are feeling very organised and happy right now. As well as a bit hung because we have certainly indulged or rather over indulged in the vino - when in Rome and all that...
We have been up to Victoria Peak by tram and enjoyed great views over the juxtaposition of a sea of tightly packed buildings right next to jungle. Our hosts also took us to this very upmarket bar on our first night to see HK views by night - the drinks cost as much as 4 nights accomodation in some of the places we have been - which probably says more about the holes we have stayed in than anything else!
We have been to the night market in Temple Street, the food market in Graham St, explored the fab Soho area, the Nathan Rd area (the infamous Chung King Mansions)and parks and the downtown business district. We have also seen the curtain of glass of the Exhibition Centre and the strange windowless facade of the Cultural Centre as well as travelled up the world's longest escalator. It is 800m long but is actually lots of small escalators one after the other. We had kind of thought it would be one very, very long one... but come to think of it I'm not sure how almost a km of escalator could actually work!
Thanks to Hilly for the amazing tea hamper, we were so looking forward to the treats after being on the road for so long. It will take us ages to use those 2 teabags...
I forgot to write about this before. My skin actually melted from the heat on the boat. Seriously. Melted. It has to have been the heat. My neck went up in this serious rash with blisters - I actually had to hide from the masked 'health inspector' (I think a bird flu defence) on entry into HK. I thought they might sound the alarms and turn me round if they saw it. Thank God a bit of HK TLC has me right as rain. And Elizabeth Arden's 8 hour cream. Is there anything that cream does not do?
It is pouring with rain right now which gives us all the excuse we need to veg a bit... off to watch Ab Fab.
If you hadn't got the message yet I'll say it again - we LOVE HK.
