The Rock Town
On the way out of the Czech Republic, we took a few back roads to find a geologists oasis in the hills near the Polish border. It area is literally called the Rock Town, otherwise known as Adrspach Rocks and Teplice Rocks. These are both bizarre and beautiful outcrops of stratified sandstone that have been eroded and fissured by water and frost to form giant towers and pinnacles and riven by deep narrow chasms.
The quick walk we had time for failed to do them justice, however the drive off the beaten track was well worth it! The area is a skiing and mountain-climber's paradise, which is also a summer haven with a beautiful lake and surrounding streams. Needless to say it was fairly cool and there was lots of snow still lying around, but it was good to get away from the throngs of tourists and see a bit more of nature and the wildlife.
