Prague, Czech Republic
Does it live up to its reputation I wonder??
Yes it does!!!
Prague is undescribable. (Is that a word? Or should it be indescribable? hmmm....).
To begin with, I impressed myself even more than the other day by catching the SIX A.M. train from Salzburg to Prague. Getting to Prague was no easy feat as unbeknownst to me it involved not one, not two, but THREE train changes in the 6.5hr journey. And being unaware of the necessity of the 3rd train change, I very nearly ended up hanging out in the middle of Nowhere, Czeck for a few hours. Thank heavens my 5am efforts did not end up in vain!
First stop in Prague, after the hostel that is, was a visit to the international doctor. I finally succumbed to the cough that has been giving me constant coughing fits at inappropriate times and keeping me and no doubt my hostel mates up half the night, leaving me feeling quite trashed in general. I left armed with some antibiotics and other goodies to treat the viral infection I have had for the last 10 days, so the sooner those drugs start working the better I say! I can already notice a difference. Here's hoping I get the dream sleep tonight. Though given the lateness of the hour, yes even late for me, that is not looking too promising at the moment...
Anyhoooo, I digress. I've spent my time just wandering around Prague breathing it all in. The buildings, the bridges, the castle as a backdrop to it all - it's just such a great atmosphere. I have to say that being here on a warm Saturday in the middle of summer probably wasn't the best idea but it's been fun. I went up the tower in the old Town square today and got some top views. Could also hear the dixieland band playing on the square down below. One old codger had a silver clarinet; have never seen one before. And the guy on drums was playing with empty soft drink bottles for a while. There you go Lyndon, ditch those drum sticks and head for the recycling bin to find yourself some empty bottles! Spent quite a few hours wandering around the castle as well - lots of great views and an incredible old church. The food scene here is fantastic; I've already had 2 bagel sandwiches at Bagel Bohemia, conveniently located only 5mins from my quaint little hostel. And whaddya know - they also have peanut butter/chocolate cake there, so of course I had to get some.
Tomorrow morning in Prague, and then I fly off to Zurich to spend time with my friend Bettina for a few days. The plan is to hit the Montreux Jazz Fest which should be fantastic. Then on Friday I fly to Paris to start my Pyrnees to Paris Tour de France pursuit. Can't wait!
Ciao for now :)
