Back in Rome

Well, we have arrived back in Rome safe and sound. It is very warm in the city so we will have to slow down abit. Yesterday, we got off the ship and came straight to the hotel. We were all tired to had a nap then headed out to have a little boat ride on the Tiber and saw St. Peter's in the distance. Actually, we were quite close but will visit another day. We found a lovely little restaurant, which there are hundreds of, and had a meal. We all slept well. We are up later today as we have not had too many mornings to just relax. We are heading out in the heat of the day today to the Zoo so will take it slowly.
Anyway, after leaving North Africa, our next stop was Sicily and the capital, Palermo. We went of a half day tour to Cefalu, a beach side community that alot of city folk spend their summer at as it is a little cooler and you have the sea to enjoy. Sarah and I managed another swim in the sea. She has done fairly well on these half day tours and it has given her an idea of the European culture. Our next stop was Naples, where Mom and I took off on a full day tour to Sorrento and Pompeii. Sarah stayed on the ship with her little Dutch friend and her mother. The day was very hazy in Naples with a hazy view of Mt. Vesuvias. The drive along the coast to Sorrento was lovely and what a beautiful spot Sorrento is. It sits on the edge of cliffs so very panoramic. We had some time to spend on our own looking around and shopping, of course. They took us for a very nice Italian lunch with very nice Italian wine ! After, we headed to Pompeii for a 2 hour tour around the site. Now that was HOTTTTT (weather). It is, however, a very interesting spot and much larger than I imagined from my studies in Latin in high school. We made our way around looking around the areas of the "city". Back to the ship for our last night aboard and then back to Rome. All in all, a great cruise. The adventures continue with more to follow !
