Sagging colonial grandeur with atmospheric shophouses...
Georgetown sounds pretty grand and colonial and it kinda is. 'Kinda' being the operative word. 'Sagging colonial grandeur with atmospheric shophouses' is how Lonely Planet describes it and that pretty much hits the spot.
We only slept overnight here to get the ferry to Indonesia but we filled up our day with lots of admin including a visit to the dentist where Andrew found out he needs root canal treatment. Poor thing - we asked for lots of drugs instead and hope they last until Oz.
Also our 6 mth old camera that sweet Sas & Dan couriered to Tibet for us has gone on the blink. Just turns itself off when it feels like a nap. Damn Canon!!! I must say though that Malaysians are generally extremely helpful and welcoming and the Canon crew did their utmost to help us sort out the issues - unfortunately the 2 new batteries and charger did not solve the issue and now we have to wait for Oz as Indonesia has no Canon offices.
As you can imagine having your camera die whilst out in the jungle taking pics of orang utangs in the wild is kinda frustrating. Damn Canon is the PG rated version of what I really want to say!
