Kathmandu, Nepal
Arrival in the oasis...
After a bit of a wait and a few empty promises of 'opening in 10 minutes' we managed to get through the border and organised a jeep with some Israelis, Spanish and Italians for the 100km ride into Kathmandu. Thank God we did as the roads were just as rough on the Nepal side but luckily also just as stunning.
Andrew and I had stayed at Mom's Guest House back in '97 and '99 so we headed straight there and have been enjoying the traveller's oasis that is Kathmandu for the last few days. This has meant copious amounts of gorgeous food washed down with equally gorgeous wine and most days waking up with a mother of a hangover. Thank God for our never ending supply of Anaddin Extras!
In between all the debauchery and excess we are trying to organise our 3 week Annapurna Circuit walk and are also revisiting some of the sights like Durbar Square and Swayambunath Temple. Andrew had his Fanta snatched by a rather devious monkey as we walked up the stairs and we both watched on helpless as he downed it in front of us - cheeky bugger!
I will try and update this blog before we leave, but if you don't hear from us until the end of October, it is not because we don't love you, it is just that we will be up a mountain having another great adventure.
3 weeks of walking in the mountains - how lucky are we?
