Waitomo Caves, New Zealand
Little dots of green light..
I really wanted to see glow worms as they are a big thing all around NZ & we hadn't come across them yet.
We were all 'caved out' so didn't actually go into the famous Waitomo caves, we just stayed there the night & went for a short night bush walk to see them sparkling like little fairies in the forest. Very sweet & glad we saw them, especially because they were just in nature & didn't have an entry charge!
We missed out on the apparently overpriced and over-hyped Hobbiton tour - I was still ready to hand over my $50 to the farmer who has realised that clever people will pay stupid money to see what is left of the set on his farm. He stopped the crew dismantling it when he noticed that hoards trying to view it. I'm sure the man will be able to retire soon & is rubbing his hands with glee at his good fortune of having the right hills, in the right place, at the right time.
So off to Piha near Auckland to see our old flatties Jesse & Jason. We bring big cheese (1.2 kg blue) & good wine. Bound to be a good night
