Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania

The road to Mto Wa Mbu

After a good night's sleep only woken by the sound of howling dogs, we set off. This area is more lush and more what I expected.  A beautiful ride on a good road, incredible scenery, 40km quickly sped by. But then we turned. 7km to lunch but  all on a sandy track. I was so nervous!

Trish, one of the team stuck by me telling me how to conquer my fear. We passed through cotton fields and saw the sugar cane harvest. Well I didn't really with my eyes glued to the ground. Finally we arrived at lunch. What a relief!  But after lunch another 40km to go all on this offroad track.

I got on my bike and again with Trish guiding me I set off. This time there were hills and downhills to contend with. The temperature was soaring and reached 44! that afternoon. I went on but when we stopped for some shade I was shaking and dizzy and it was decided for me I should go into the support vehicle which was already almost  full.

My hat goes off to those incredible women who managed to complete the afternoon in that heat! Amazing.

Afterwards we moved on to our new place for the night, a hotel in a little town . Arriving after dark meant we couldn't look around but I was happy as I had a single room for the two nights we'd be staying there. Luxury! :)

An all women cycle ride across Tanzania raising money for women's cancer charities. It's been a hard slog changing from couch potato to cyclist extrordinaire! Hmm cyclist at least. Help the fundraising at www.justgiving.com/karenonabicycle. Thank you
