Day 21 Leaving Bangkok

This is our last day in Thailand before returning to India on a late flight this evening.

We checked out of our hotel room at 11am and asked them to store our luggage for a few hours. We decided to go on the Chaophraya River. There are numerous private hire and public boats on the river and we opted for the orange flag public express boat which runs every 20 minutes and stops frequently. You pay a very small amount before boarding and then travel as many stops as you like.

We travelled 5 stops and got off between Chinatown and an area containing numerous temples including Wat Pho one of the better known. The temple contains the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand and is also the birthplace of traditional Thai massage which is still taught and practised there to this day.

We did not have too much time so after walking in this area for a while we returned by boat to the landing stage nearest our hotel. We fancied some food and near the jetty found a man and woman team peeling huge potatoes and selling chips and we couldn't resist. These were literally some of the best chips we have ever tasted anywhere in the world.

We decided to go to the airport early to avoid the earl evening rush hour which seemed to get worse by the day as Chinese New Year approached. We went to the Amari Hotel which is a nice hotel attached to DMK airport and which we had used on our way to Myanmar. There we were able to sit in comfort, read, have a good dinner and eventually board our 4 hour flight at about 9.30pm for Cochin.

More wifi problems preventing uploading of photos at present. (Now done)
