Last Day in Bangkok

Had a brilliant last day here, felt so at home and enjoyed everything, especially the fantastic new hotel we moved to! After another lay, good brekky and repacking my bag (which has space in now - yay!!!) we checked out and moved around to the new place. The room was compact but really clean and had everything we needed. Discovered that the hotel had only opened 7 months before, which explained why it was so well decorated. All the staff were so friendly and smiley, it was a real gem in Bangkok!
Did some photo uploading (finally) and then we thought about going to the posh hotel Champooh had told us had a swimming pool we could sneak in and use! It had been raining before but was still warm so we went for it and had no problem going to the third floor and setting ourselves up on the loungers. It wasn't busy when we arrived(probably cos of the rain) and was really nice to chill out, write postcards and have a swim (and when I say swim I mean lounge about in the water!).
Grabbed lunch at a local restaurant on the way back, hadn't realised how hungry I was until I sat down! Back at the hotel took the opportunity to use the cheap internet again, having a psychadelic webcam chat with mum! Went to explore the rooftop terrace of the hotel and was astounded to discover... a jacuzzi!!!! It wasn't even on any of their advertising. Was almost disappointed we were due to go out cos I wanted to get right in, but made a mental note to return later!
The kickboxing show at our previous hotel was not quite what I expected. A little disorganised when we arrived, we got seated and decided what set menu to have. The food (which was interesting but not great) arrived just as the show was starting, and a little guy not too dissimilar to Mr Miagi got on the mike to present. We were shocked to see that the first people out in the ring, which had been set up on the outside terrace of the restauarant, were children! Boys about 10-11 years old we learned, from nearby villages. They didn't fight properly but did their pre-fight routine and then a staged exhibit of the moves they learn. It was quite comical at points, when they did falls it was more WWF!!
Next were the guys, who were only 18 or so themselves, but much more professional. The first guy flipped over and landed on his neck I thought he'd done himself a mischief but he was ok. They all wear a sort of tennis racket without the strings over their head when they're warming up and then put it around their neck when fighting. It seemed the show was finished then, after only 15 minutes and people were surprised so it carried on. The one guy who spent most time out there was dripping sweat constantly. They called on a guy in the audience to have a go and then asked for a lady! Nic had some previous experience and didn't resist much when I suggested she go for it! Cheesy Was really good fun, and all the locals all cheered her when she came back in.
We then hotfooted it back to the hotel, bought ourselves a glass of white wine, got changed and went straight to the jacuzzi. A weird looking guy on the roof of the building opposite waved over at one point which was quite funny! A lovely view from up there and a great finish to our time in Thailand to chill out with a drink and the bubbles! Cheesy
