Derek & Val in Bangkok - Dec in Chiang Mai

1st May
Derek & Val - Arrived in Bangkok at about 10am and got a taxi into Koh San Road. Very much a backpackers haven, (also very popular for people going on 2 or 3 weeks holidays). This is really the first of this we have seen since we left Ireland. Went on a boat up to River City and visited the Golden Buddha (largest golden buddha in the world, measured by weight it would be worth about $14m). No more buddhas from now on as we have seen the largest one (in Leshan, China) and now the largest gold one! Decided to take a look around a few shopping malls as Bangkok is renowned for it. The choice is unbelievable. After the shopping (not much bought) headed for a little cafe and a beutiful cup of coffee. Got a tuk tuk back to the guesthouse and went for dinner at the Siam Garden - food was great. Then went to Gulliver's Travellers Tavern, Silk Bar and finisehed the night off at Susie's Pub - hit the dance floor, really good music, great night.

2nd May
Derek & Val
Had a look around the street market. Bought a few bits. Really great value on the best of fake gear. Very difficult to tell the difference between the real stuff. Got a tuk tuk ti Mah Boon Krong Shopping Centre. Val bought some more shoes!
Went out and took it handy for the evening.

3rd May
Derek & Val
Headed to the airport for our flight to Phuket. Didn't have to pay any extra for our extra baggage, this was a nice relief. Booked our boat from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi as we were not going to stay in Phuket.

2 May - Decy's Day! - Chiang Mai
Was collected at 8am for my adventure tour. Only 3 of us on the tour - myself and a Swedish couple. Drove an hour and half out of Chiang Mai to an Elephant reserve. Went Elephant trekking for an hour. Much better then the last time I did it. We crossed a big ass river a couple of times as well. After that I had a 10km mountain bike ride to look forward to. now when I booked the tour this seemed like a great idea. It wasn't. I nearly died with the heat. 10km ride at 12 noon in 37 degrees heat. I made it, just. But was serverly dehydrated. Luckily the tour included lunch. So I drank a load of Coke and got some grub in. After lunch it was time for 10km of White Water Rafting. The 3 of us were put through our basic training. then set off with Captain Dang down the river. the first 4 km was easy. the captain going over the training basics. then we hit a number of rapids ranging from Class 2 to Class 4. Great craic.
That night, just got some grub in and one or two beers . Was fairly knackered so had an early night.

3 May - Decy's Day! - Chiang Mai
Bit of a lie in, then got some breakfast in before setting off to visit the 5 main temples in the city. That took most of the afternoon. Came across a great little cafe on my travels - chocolate brownie and a scoop of Italian chocolate ice-cream...delish! And only about 80cent.
Met up with Nangle that evening. Session started in O'Malleys Irish Bar. Fair crowd out, all the gang that had gone on the jungle trekking. Hit Bubble again, that finishes at 2am. After that got a few tuk tuks and raced over to the late night club - Spicy. Stayed there boozing til close - 6am.
