The Beginning

As soon as we got off the plane we could feel the heat, and a big difference in culture. The first thing you see when the plane lands are posters 'Long live the King'' quite disturbing.
After an immigration check you get bombarded by rip off Taxis, if we hadn't been forwarned we wouldnt have known to walk just a few paces outside and get half the price.
Once we had unpacked at the Royal hotel we went for a stroll down the road...we got about three paces then the humidity forced us to get our first tuk-tuk ride to Kho-San road. Its full of restuarants, bars and a bustling market, full of bargins (once you learn how to barter). First night we ate at the most western pub avaliable GulliversLaugh, after seeing the fried bugs on sale outside
Second day we took a long boat ride around the fish and croc infested river running through the city. We travelled from the run down shanty houses, perched on the shores to the splender of the Grand Palace.
After paying a landing fee (The thais try and get money out off the tourists anyway possible) we went to the standing budha temple, which was not worth it in the heat. Thenonto the tour of the Grand Palace, we had to be covered from head to ankle whilst inside and the heat was unbearable but this was a place not to be missed. Headed out again in the evening and we were asked to be in a bollywood movie as there was a serious lack of western tourists in this area. We reluctently declined as we had to leave in the morning for the old Capital.
