Split---as in banana
Leanne and I have arrived in Split. We had to leave our dear Sandra at the bus station this morning in Split. She is off to Zagreb and then on to Venice. It was a fun little journey. Much fun---many laughs, some wine and food consumed. Thanks again Sandra.
But I do have to say as lovely as Dubrovnik is really---there are just too many tourists. What happens is all the cruise ships hang in the harbour and all the people get off for the day and come and infest the town. As much as I liked it for the beauty the tourists just did it for me. It is hard to believe that just 15 years ago Dubrovnik (as was the rest of Croatia) was getting bombed and there was a full on war. I dont know if I mentioned but all the old town of Dubrovnik is built in a fortress with big stone walls and basically is a full on castle. So the people of Dubrovnik either fled or hid in the castle walls. There was over 31 billion US worth of damage. But they continue to rebuilt and it looks great.
Anywho---we came up the coast to Split. Traveling is exhausting...we have been taking it too easy because now a mere 5 hour bus ride just k*lled us! We arrive and searched for a room. Let me tell you---we are living the high life right now. We have a private flat for 200hrk (40 CAD) per night that has its own bathroom and kitchen. HEAVEN! It is located on a really pretty cobblestone street...just great! We hit up the market---as you do---ate lunch and then nap time.
Leanne and I were discussing the funny thing about traveling is that relaxing is really hard...just because when you do take a 'lazy day' or just 'relaxation time' you can't totally because you feel guilty for not seeing things. Just a side note. So as tired as we are we came to the cafe for an espresso and a little internet and off we go to explore.
This is a biggie and filled with not a lot sooooooooo love you all.
