The travel train continues......
Okie Dokie, another blog.
The train was ride was another fun little gem with some interesting stories. Lets just say it was a loooooooong ride. Fortunatley for us we met a nice sporting team made up of 3 woman and 2 men going to France for a tournament. I cant remember the name of the sport but apparently it is something like curling but the surface is made of little tiny pebbles, not ice. They invited us for some brandy and dinner. The dinner was quite lovely consisitng of roasted peppers, feta pastry, chicken, chillis and meat balls!
Leanne was really funny and ended up dropping some chicken and splilling a brandy on the food! IT was pretty funny but Leanne was totally embarassed. We cleared it all up and all was well! The only way to handle this journey was to take a sleeper train which meant that we both got beds. Oh sweet love how fabulous it was. We laid around, chatted and got a lot of sleep! IT was a collective agreement that it was our best train ride yet!
We were woken up quite a few times for the passport control but I was so tired that the first time I thought the man was there to sell food and the second time I thought he was there to be our new roomie! LOL, not the case. Luckily Leanne could sort out the accent and give our passports. After Belgrade we were instructed to deadbolt both locks on the train to avoid being robbed by gypsies. We were a ok and no issues to report.
As we started to get in to Zagreb boy oh boy was it raining. The country side on the train was also quite lovely which must be mentioned. The fields were filled with many corn crops and huge gardens. Farmers were out picking their crops and milking their cows. Many of the houses that lined the train tracks were quite run down. Some of them were missing sides of the houses and you could see in their living room and walls lined with chillies drying out. Oh yes and many of the windows of the houses also had no glass...through most of the ride it was raining too so we just laid around wrapped in our blankets and being cozy.
We arrived in Zagreb to 2 hours behind schedule soooo we got in around 8am. From there we came to the hostel to drop our bags. Then we headed out to get some shopping in---just the essentials. I bought some jeans, a sweater, 2 shirts and new runners. The weather is a bit chilly and raining so this makes for difficult dressing when all you have is summer dresses and bikinis!!! Now we are at the hostel chilling in the lounge. We are just relaxing because we are both exhausted from the train ride...we are going to take in a film and then go with some new friends from the hostel.
Tomorrow Sandra will come and meet us at the hostel and then I suppose we will head down south to the coast. Should be good! So far Zagreb seems just lovely. Beautiful architecture, churches and more cobblestone streets!
Leanne and I have also decided to part ways after Croatia. Now families dont be worried! We just had a chat and decided that we were confident to be on our own now so we will take separate adventures. BUT we will meet up again hopefully to be roomies in London. I am going to miss Leanne a lot BUT I am also looking forward to those lone adventures as well!
Okie Dokie---I am pretty relaxed and now am going to chill out!
