Tuesday 16 Oct
Mount Roraima, Venezuela

Heading to Venezuela.

Arrived in Boa Vista at lunchtime and sorted out the next leg of the journey to Pacaraima on the border of Brazil and Venezuela. We arrived an hour late at 8pm and then struggled to get one of the many taxis to take us across the border - for some reason they were all just ignoring us. Luckily we were joined by a Venezuelan man who spoke good English because when we arrived at the Brazilian border control to get our passports stamped they told us the person responsible for this was in bed and that we would have to come back tomorrow. Our taxi companion kicked up a fuss and managed to get the chap out of bed. He came out in his pajamas and groggily stamped out passports. We then headed for the Venezualean control where we unfortunately had less luck. There were about 15 guards wandering around but no one available to stamp our passports. We were very relived when they waved us on towards St Elena and we decided to come back tomorrow for the essential stamp which we knew we would probably need to leave the country in a few weeks. We checked into the hotel and went for beer and pasta in what seemed to be a deserted St Elena.
