Bangkok, Thailand

Bathing with Elephants, Bangkok and East Coast Islands

Over the last two weeks I have had an amazing time in Thailand! I met Claire and Nicola in Bangkok on the 16th June and we stayed in a 5* Hotel for three nights for €50 per night each! We were treated like royalty! On the second day in Bangkok we took a boat down the river. The river was filthy! Wherever we went throughout Bangkok there was a disgusting smell too! After the boat ride we hired a tuctuc for about €2 to take us on a tour around the city. The driver stopped at the 'Golden Buddha' which we were privileged to see because it is only open to the public once a month. The statue was made in Burma 700 years ago and is 60% solid gold! We also stopped at a jewellery factory located in the grounds of the Royal Palace where I purchased a beautiful Aquamarine ring.
Our life of luxury was short-lived! On the third day we left Bangkok and headed north to the River Kwai where we stayed for two nights on mattreses on a floating shed! To flush the toilet we had to fill up a bucket of water and pour it down the toilet and we used a hose to shower ourselves - with cold water!! It was fun though. Claire and I bathed and swam with elephants, we went on an elephant safari, we pet tigers in the Tiger Temple and I stood in a cave behind a waterfall. On the Saturday we made our way back to Bangkok where we took a thirteen hour night bus to Surat where we got a ferry to Koh Samui. (I wouldn't recommend the night bus as my locked bag was rummaged through and a necklace was taken!) We stayed in Koh Samui for three nights then moved to Koh Phangan for four nights then to Koh Tao where I stayed a night then flew back to Bangkok from Samui. The islands were beautiful. Koh Samui was my favourite out of the three but 'Had Rin' beach in Koh Phangan is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to!! We hired scooters in Samui and Phangan. It was fun in Samui but scary in Phangan. Phangan is very hilly and it is quite dangerous to use scooters there! On the 26th June we had a brilliant night at the Half Moon Festival which was located in the middle of a forest! Overall I've had a brilliant two weeks in Thailand! On my way home now... see you all soon xxxCool
