Road back to Dar, Tanzania

My 1 day Tanzania roadtrip

I had pre-booked a "Scandinavia Express" bus back to Dar Es Salaam from Moshi before I went to Ethiopia (these are the buses with the toilets btw!). This would allow me to:

a) save a bit of cash, than if I flew with Precision Air (not quite as cheap as Ethiopian Airlines for internal flights)

b) get to see a bit of the countryside/people in rural Tanzania

I didn't realise it was gonna be about 9 hours though!

Add to that the fact that they had crackly speakers positioned above every seat that spouted out dodgy 80s power ballads at an ear-piercing level (I had to stuff my ears with toilet paper when another verse of "I'll stand by you" came on)

It wasn't all bad though, as they gave us free fruit juice and packet of peanuts. Score! Laughing

The countryside down from Moshi to Dar es Salaam was fairly similar throughout. Very green and "jungley" would be the best way to describe it. Far from the sort of sparse vegetation I had become accustomed to in Ethiopia. Every so often the bus would arrive into a town whose only industry seemed to be to cater to buses like ours and on stopping we would inevitably be bombarded by guys selling fruit and cashewnuts direct to our window. I bought a few packets of cashewnuts at these points, and they were delicious. Apparently cashewnuts are one of the main exports of Tanzania.

My sister's husband's cousin (still following me?), Mark, is living in Dar and generously offered to take me in for the night!

It was nice to stay with people instead of being in a hotel again and they treated me to a slap up meal while I bored them with my photos!

Thanks again Mark if you're reading this! Laughing

Day 3 ... Lookin forward to Uhuru peak, Kilimanjaro

With Toto's defining tune ringing in my head, I don khaki pants and venture full-throttle into Africa! Elephants, lions, huge mountains, men with spears intent on stabbing me (probably) and the "Cradle of Humanity" (tm)... 4 weeks ain't gonna be enough!
