Day 19 Beijing 3
Our first stop today was the Police Museum which was interesting to see how they portrayed themselves. As we were reading you were always wondering in the back of your mind what was real and what they made up.
We then headed to the Summer Palace which was quite a trek on the tube and when we left the heat on the air hit us full force in the face. Again faced with loads of steps we started to climb. Most of the buildings were closed but there were fantastic views of Beijing it wasn't long until the building had stopped and it turned into pathways among trees but as you kept walking you came across a lake and realised that this place was huge. There was no way that we were going to be able to see it all so had to decide o what we wanted to see such as the marble boat.
Just before sunset we headed to Tiananmen Square to see the ceremony of taking down the flag but as we were walking towards it, it had already started so onwards to the night market on Donghuamen Lu. This market is mainly for tourists but if in your wildest dreams you think that you might be able to eat it then they had it on a stick. Some of the food items were scorpions on a stick, sheep's penis on a stick, starfish and seahorse on a stick to name a few. We decided not to eat here.
