London, United Kingdom

Jolly old England

Well, we made it back to the UK and I can hardly believe it is already July 25 so mucho to catch up on. As the day at the Zoo really wore everyone out, the following day was much slower. We hired a taxi in Rome for three hours and he drove us to most of the MUST SEE sites eg Trevi Fountain, Parthenon, Colliseum, View from Garibaldi Park that looks out over Rome and the Vatican, a number of Piazzo's (squares) as well a couple of Basilica's. It was much more relaxing to have someone drive us around in the air conditioned Mercedes and really get to alot of places without to much strenuous walking. You can certainly walk forever in the city or use the bus and subway as driving is completely insane. The following day was our adventure to Vatican City to see St. Peter's (Pope was not there to see us as he was on holidays in the north of Italy). We did not go into the Museum and Sistene Chapel as the line ups were way too long so just headed straight to St. Peter's. All I can say is WOW. It really is a huge beautiful church, awe inspiring as the history contained in those walls is unbelievable. This is not to say the myriad of other churches do not have the same feel but I am very glad I went there. Sarah was not quite as impressed ! However, she will be able to say that she was there as somewhere in life she will recognize something from there and relate back to her trip. We did a little shopping in the afternoon then back to the hotel for 2 G & T's. We went back to one of our favourite restaurants two blocks from the hotel for our last evening in Rome and enjoyed some more pasta and red wine. I did forget to mention that we had pizza at a little place close to the hotel for lunch one day and it was TO DIE FOR. Pizza will never be the same again back in Canada, I must try to learn to make it that way, right Sabine ?! We left on Tuesday AM for London and arrived in the afternoon at my cousin's place NE of London. Sarah and I slept then went into the city to go on the London Eye, a giant size stand up ferris wheel that sits beside the Thames close to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. London is very busy with tourists but alot cooler in temperature, a nice relief ! We are up and going this morning, Sarah making pasta from scratch with Cary (my cousin) prior to us going to see The Lion King on stage.
Ciao for now !
